2003 178th ASHC and 400th TC Reunion Pensacola Beach, Florida Make your arrangements NOW with the Hampton Inn on Pensacoloa Beach for this years Reunion. We have been given a very good rate to be on the beach. Just keep your fingers crossed that the hurricanes stay away for that week! We sometimes have those in Florida that time of year. We are still in the process of arranging some activities for the group. I am attempting to lay on a trolley for a trip to the National Museum of Naval Aviation located aboard Naval Air Station Pensacola. I'm trying to arrange that to take place on a day when the Blue Angel are in town and flying a rehearsal. NAS Pensacola is their home port. The rehearsals are easily viewed from the museum, where there are bleachers and such set up for the public to watch the flights. Following the rehearsals the Blue Angels crews visit the meseum to meet, greet, and sign autographs. I've also planned a stop for the group at "The Wall South". this is a full-size replica of the Vietnam Memorial; permanently located bayside in Pensacola. I have another agenda item working that may take us to Fort Rucker. Plans aren't solid yet so I'll have to get back to you on that in the Summer Newsletter in August. Fort Rucker is about a two-and-a-half hour drive from the Reunion hotel. There are many activities in and around the Pensacola area. These waters offer the best deep-sea fishing (of almost all kinds) in Florida, which means it is among the very best in the world. There is also great SCUBA and snorkeling here. Freshwater fising is also among the best. If you like antiques there are many very good shopping opportunities. Pensacola also has theater, symphony, pro baseball, pro football, and even pro hockey. if you're a golfer, the PGA Seniors Classic is played here in Milton every year, and golf courses abound. Milton, a Pensacola neighbor, is also the conoeing capital of Florida. Hunting, particularly deer hunting, is the best there can be. For the UFOlogists amoung you, Pensacola Beach is just acrosss the bridge from Gulf Breeze, which in the past has been a UFO sighting hotspot. Of coure, one of the most practiced activities for vacationers here is doing nothing at all except enjoying the beach... and there's a lot to be said for that too. Bring your sunscreen and shorts and Come on Down! By the way, the dress for anything around here year round is "beach casual". Don't worry about bringing your black ties and evening dresses... There's no place to wear them.
See You in September!!
During our business meeting in Pensacola Beach, we will be deciding on a definite Reuion Site, and Site Host for 2004, and discussing other potential sites for future Reunions. It will be critical to have a willing Site Host when we leave Florida in September. So far we have two suggestions for 2004: a general suggestion to have another one in the West; and a specific proposal for Ocean City, Maryland. All suggestions are welcome, and will be discussed at the meeting. We also have a tentative suggestion for 2005 for Anchorage, Alaska. |
